Queen
Through experimentation with type layout and type treatments. I was able to portray the feeling that the song exudes in the form of a poster. The song “Death On Two Legs” by Queen, is about the hate a person or even a group of people can feel against a person who has wronged them so severely. It goes on to essentially call them out on the wrong they have done, as well as wish all sorts of malice upon the person, and even death.
The logotype is supposed to help represent the passing of a person when they die. Using the letter “D” flipped on its side to signify it being a casket. And with the “eath” of the word death representing the living. As the “D” is below the rest of the word it is signifying the burial of said person.
By flipping the “D” to its side it is used to represent the coffin and deceased. Whereas the “eath” of the word can be used to represent the living as it is “above ground”. By pairing the coffin “D” with the gradient lyrics that are fading from black to red. It helps to exemplify the idea of being forgotten after death and also the idea of being sent to an afterlife. In this case hell, which is insinuated with the red.
The use of the stark black background helps to signify the idea that the person who died is dead and underground. Paired with the red helps to symbolize an afterlife, mostly hell. As it helps relate to the disdain and hate for the person that this song is about. Whereas the white of the “eath” helps to solidify the opposite side of the coin, where it represents the living and the possibility of heaven. As well as the innocence that the living have the capability of.
The photo that was chosen was of a queen. I chose this image because the band who wrote the song was known as Queen. I believe it helps solidify the artist and the logotype as one in the poster.
